Please see: Short Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) Fire Safety Standard (PDF) - NSW Government

This regulation covers all Short Term Rental Accommodation including AirBNB and similar.

Grace Period

Due to COVID-19 stay at home orders, The NSW Government will allow a ‘grace period’, due to some hosts not being able to travel to their properties, or secure tradespeople to ensure they are compliant with the fire safety standards.

The fire and safety requirement is delayed until 1 March 2022. This means you have an extra four months to ensure your dwelling complies with the fire safety standards.

You must still register your property on the STRA Register before 1 November 2021 to take bookings for this summer.

Evacuation Diagrams

There are specific requirements for these evacuation plans as defined in the Short-term Rental Accommodation Fire Safety Standard.

As well as the components of the plans and their locations, there is a requirement regarding the orientation of the plans.

Evacuation plans that meet specified standards will be required at the entrance to your property and in all bedrooms.
